Elon Musk bashes Trump-backed Stargate deal

Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman are at odds over Stargate, a $500 billion AI project backed by President Donald Trump. The initiative, led by OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank, aims to develop data centers and power systems critical for AI growth. Trump hailed the venture as a bold statement of America’s potential, with an initial $100 billion private investment expected to quintuple.
Musk, a key Trump adviser and campaign backer, cast doubt on the project’s funding, claiming SoftBank has secured less than $10 billion. Posting on X, he criticized the feasibility of the investment. Altman dismissed Musk’s concerns, inviting him to tour the Texas site already under construction.
Altman defended Stargate as a benefit to the nation but admitted it might not align with Musk's business priorities. He urged Musk to prioritize America’s interests in his influential role.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra officially revealed

Samsung has launched the Galaxy S25 Ultra, packed with advanced AI features. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and starting with 12GB of RAM, it handles tasks like Generative Edit on-device, allowing users to reframe shots, remove subjects, and fill backgrounds without cloud processing. A new heat dissipation system ensures smooth performance.
Running One UI 7 on Android 15, the phone acts as an AI companion, understanding text, speech, and images for natural interaction. Features like Now Brief deliver personalized alerts, while ProScaler improves visuals, and Audio Eraser isolates sounds from recordings. These AI tools are free until 2025, with some later requiring payment.
The 6.9-inch Ultra is Samsung’s lightest and most durable yet, with a titanium body and Gorilla Armor 2. Starting at $1,300, it’s available for pre-order in multiple finishes.

Upbit, Bithumb compensate users after service outages

South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges Upbit and Bithumb will compensate users after service outages caused by the Dec. 3, 2024, declaration of nationwide martial law. President Yoon Suk Yeol’s announcement triggered panic, crashing Bitcoin prices by 32% and overwhelming exchange servers, according to Yonhap News.
Upbit, typically handling 100,000 users, saw activity surge to 1.1 million, resulting in 99 minutes of downtime. Bithumb and Coinone faced similar spikes, experiencing 62 and 40 minutes of disruptions, respectively. The outages left investors unable to trade during volatile market conditions.
To address losses, Upbit will pay $2.1 million for 596 claims, while Bithumb will compensate $262,000 for 124 cases. Final payouts may increase as negotiations continue. Other exchanges, including Coinone, Korbit, and Gopax, are not liable for investor compensation.

ARK Invest’s Cathie Wood won’t invest in Trump coin

Cathie Wood, CEO of ARK Invest, called President Donald Trump’s launch of the Official Trump (TRUMP) token a sign of crypto’s next phase. In a Jan. 22 Bloomberg interview, she described TRUMP as a memecoin with little utility beyond speculation, likening it to the 2017 ICO boom, which introduced blockchain technology to a broader audience despite its controversies.
The TRUMP token surged 11,000% within hours of its launch, pushing memecoin trading volumes up 30% to $17.98 billion in a week. Despite the buzz, Wood confirmed ARK Invest avoids memecoins, focusing instead on Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana.
Wood expressed confidence in decentralized finance (DeFi), predicting its significant growth. “DeFi, or internet financial services, is going to be big,” she said, noting its strong foundation in Ethereum and Solana.
