STORIES MAKING A SPLASH

Mark Zuckerberg criticizes Apple for lack of innovation

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg criticized Apple during a nearly three-hour podcast with Joe Rogan, claiming the company "[hasn't] really invented anything great in a while" and is coasting on past successes. He argued that after Steve Jobs created the iPhone, Apple has failed to push boundaries.

The conversation began with Rogan sharing his frustration with Apple’s policies, especially its 30% App Store fee. He revealed he’s considering switching from Apple to Android due to feeling “attached to one company” and disliking the control Apple exerts.

Zuckerberg agreed, acknowledging the iPhone’s importance but criticizing Apple’s restrictive rules. He argued that Apple’s policies, like limiting access to its protocols, stifle competition and prevent better alternatives to products like AirPods.

Nvidia unveils RTX 50-series graphics cards with DLSS 4

At CES 2025, NVIDIA unveiled DLSS 4, bringing real-time image upscaling to all RTX GPUs, including the discontinued RTX 20 series, though older models won’t get all features. The new GeForce RTX 50 series will take full advantage of DLSS 4, including Multi Frame Generation, which can boost frame rates up to eight times over traditional rendering.

The RTX 5090, NVIDIA’s flagship $1,999 GPU arriving this month, promises 4K 240 FPS fully ray-traced gaming with Multi Frame Generation. DLSS 4 also upgrades AI models, improving Ray Reconstruction, Super Resolution, and DLAA with better temporal stability, less ghosting, and enhanced motion detail.

By launch, 75 games and apps will support DLSS 4. Titles like Alan Wake and Cyberpunk 2077 will benefit from Multi Frame Generation, with more games, including Black Myth: Wukong and Doom: The Dark Ages, getting future updates.

Tesla recalls 239,000 vehicles over rear-view camera glitch

Tesla has recalled over 200,000 vehicles due to a computer hardware issue that can disable safety features like the rearview camera. The affected models include recent builds of the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X, with manufacturing dates spanning January 2023 to December 2024. The recall addresses non-compliance with strict safety standards set by the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The company has begun rolling out over-the-air (OTA) updates to address the issue, starting December 18th. While the software fixes rearview camera problems, it doesn’t resolve the underlying hardware flaw in Tesla’s HW4 computers, critical for its push toward full autonomy. Tesla has logged nearly 900 warranty claims and dozens of field reports linked to the problem.

This recall follows previous fixes for similar rearview camera issues, demonstrating Tesla’s reliance on OTA updates to tackle safety concerns quickly.
