STORIES MAKING A SPLASH

Andrew Tate to run for UK Prime Minister in BRUV party
Andrew Tate, a Romanian-based influencer facing human trafficking and money laundering charges, has announced plans to "run for Prime Minister of the UK." Along with his brother Tristan, Tate has been battling criminal charges since 2022, including sex crimes and trafficking. The brothers were detained earlier this year and face further investigations after authorities found more evidence in August.
Despite being under house arrest since August, Tate has used his time to launch a political party, the BRUV Party, though it is not registered with the election commission. He claims to be serious about running, citing the success of other internet figures in politics.
Tate’s platform, outlined on his party's website, promises to "reclaim Britain" by defending borders, crushing crime, and purging corruption. Social media users are questioning whether this political venture is legitimate or just a stunt.

Coinbase gains major court win in SEC legal battle
Coinbase scored a win in its legal battle with the SEC after a federal judge granted an interlocutory appeal. On January 7, Judge Katherine Failla of the Southern District of New York ruled in favor of Coinbase, allowing the appeal and pausing proceedings until the Second Circuit reviews the case.
The SEC accuses Coinbase of operating as an unregistered securities exchange, claiming certain crypto transactions are securities. Judge Failla found potential for reversing her previous interpretation, acknowledging conflicting rulings in similar cases against Terraform Labs and Ripple Labs.
Despite disapproving of Coinbase's criticism of the SEC, Judge Failla emphasized the need for clarity on these legal questions, paving the way for the Second Circuit’s guidance. Coinbase’s legal team expressed appreciation for the court’s decision.

Meta replaces fact-checkers with 'community notes' system
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a shift in the company’s content moderation strategy, moving from fact-checking to a Community Notes model, inspired by X (formerly Twitter). This change will be rolled out across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, starting in the U.S.
Zuckerberg explained that Meta’s complex moderation systems have led to mistakes and excessive censorship, affecting millions. The new approach aims to simplify policies, reduce errors, and restore free expression, with Community Notes allowing users to add context to potentially misleading posts.
Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, Joel Kaplan, highlighted the success of this model on X, where users with diverse perspectives collaboratively decide what context is necessary. The company plans to make Community Notes a key feature across its platforms, ensuring transparency and reducing bias.

Nvidia CEO says company has plans for desktop chip
Nvidia's long-rumored entry into the consumer CPU market may be closer than expected. At CES, the company unveiled Project Digits, a $3,000 personal AI supercomputer powered by the new GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, co-developed with MediaTek. CEO Jensen Huang teased plans for a 20-core desktop CPU based on this Arm-based chip, but kept details under wraps, hinting at bigger moves ahead.
While Nvidia’s focus is on AI and custom systems, Huang suggested that MediaTek might also market the CPU independently, creating a win-win for both companies. This aligns with rumors that Nvidia, along with AMD, is working on Arm-based chips for a 2025 launch.
Currently, Qualcomm dominates the Arm-based CPU market for Windows PCs, with its Snapdragon X Elite processors. These chips have set new performance and power-efficiency standards, challenging Intel and AMD’s x86 dominance.
